Announcements  List Service Guidelines

 

The purpose of the “Announcements” mail list is to inform and remind list members about OLLU campus events and activities that may be of interest to a majority of all faculty, staff and students.  The objective is NOT to replace e-Currents, since that is the official means of reaching ALL faculty, staff and students on a regular basis.  This mail list is an “announce-only” list.  List members may subscribe or unsubscribe from the list at any time by using posted directions. 

 

To facilitate posting to the list and to avoid unnecessary rejections, the following criteria for acceptable postings should be observed.

 

POSTING REQUIREMENTS:

 

  1. Submitted postings must be mailed from a recognized student, staff or faculty organization mailbox or from a recognized departmental mailbox.
  2. A description of the event, location, date(s), time(s), cost if any, who is invited, and a contact phone number must be included. The person or unit submitting an announcement is responsible for the accuracy of its contents.
  3. Postings are limited to once per week per event.
  4. Postings are limited to 100 KB in size. Messages exceeding this cap will be returned automatically to the sender.   Text-only messages with enhanced backgrounds or varied font types are acceptable, if they fit the size restriction.  Hyperlinks to other web-posted sources may be included, but file attachments may not.
  5. Any fraudulent use or intentional misinformation submitted for posting will be grounds for disciplinary action under existing University policies for “acceptable use of computing resources.”
  6. Postings for off-campus events are acceptable, ONLY if the event is sponsored or co-hosted by an OLLU organization or department.
  7. All postings must include a standard disclaimer statement and directions for un-subscribing.  Statement text is provided below.

 

 

General Information:

 

A rejected posting will be returned to the submitter with an explanation.

 

Appeals or posting privilege inquiries should be directed to the “OLLU Postmaster.”  The V.P. for LITS will make final decisions.

 

Over-use and misuse of the Announcements list will likely drive subscribers away.  Offices that routinely disregard these criteria will be subject to losing posting privileges.

 

ALL event postings should ALSO be submitted to e-Currents, since that mailing reaches ALL users.  Posting to this list will only reach list subscribers.

 

Examples of appropriate announcements:

Approved OLLU organization fund raisers

Student Life division events

Events sponsored by an approved OLLU organization or academic department

 

Do NOT use “Announcements” for:

Lost or found items

Personal announcements of any type, such as services or items for sale

Unapproved campus events
